RAD Exhibits Industry’s Premier Carrier Ethernet Demarcation Device for EVPL and EVPLAN Services over Fiber

Provides GbE Access for FTTB Deployments with End-to-End Performance Monitoring and Management

At the Carrier Ethernet World Congress 2008, which opens today in Berlin, RAD Data Communications will be exhibiting its ETX-202A state-of-the-art Carrier Ethernet demarcation device, which transports Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) or Fast Ethernet (FE) traffic over fiber while delivering Ethernet Virtual Private Line (EVPL) and Ethernet Virtual Private Local Area Network (EVPLAN) services.

Owned and operated by the service provider and installed at customer premises, the ETX-202A provides a clear demarcation between provider and customer networks in fiber to the business (FTTB) deployments to deliver Gigabit Ethernet access with end-to-end performance monitoring and management capabilities. By deploying the ETX-202A, carriers can manage congestion intelligently while allowing users to benefit from performance guarantees for customized service packages that fit their needs.

The ETX-202A, which is MEF-9 and MEF-14 certified for EPL and EVPL services, features Ethernet link operations, administration and maintenance (OAM) and end-to-end OAM, allowing for proactive inspection and diagnostics over the entire service path. This makes it an ideal solution for multi-tier carrier or mobile networks. Traffic engineering functionalities per user port, per Ethernet flow and per Class of Service (CoS) assist carriers in addressing diverse client needs and offering strict Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS). In next generation Radio Access Networks (RANs), managed QoS enables mobile operators to enhance service performance by combining Ethernet aggregation with OAM and SLA enforcement capabilities. RAD has demonstrated interoperability with leading test-head vendors to provide complete end-to-end solutions for SLA management.

Frees Operators from Heavy Overlay Investments

"RAD’s intelligent demarcation approach allows complete network visibility up to subscriber endpoints and facilitates remote management of differentiated services, regardless of the various protocols involved in the traffic path, the underlying networks or number of operators who own them," explains Shoval Bolotin, Senior Product Line Manager at RAD Data Communications. "In this way, the ETX-202A enables carrier-grade Ethernet services while freeing the operator from having to make heavy investments in additional overlay equipment."

EtherAccess Product Suite

The ETX-202A is an element in RAD's EtherAccess® product suite of intelligent Ethernet demarcation units, aggregators and integrated Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) access devices over fiber, DSL and copper circuits, which are designed to enable REAL (Reliable, Economical, Accountable and Limitless) carrier-grade Ethernet services. EtherAccess' unified approach enables seamless Ethernet access by providing same service attributes and user experience, so that Carrier Ethernet services can be ubiquitously extended to the subscriber premises, with bandwidth adjustments per customer requirements, regardless of the underlying access technology or the number of intermediate operator networks.
