E1 MLPPP (Multilink Point-to-Point Protocol)

E1 MLPPP combines multiple PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol) links between two systems into one logical data pipe. This enables carriers to utilize existing E1 lines for high-speed traffic and provide users with extra bandwidth to accommodate demand for high-speed applications. Moreover, E1 MLPPP bonding provides bandwidth-on-demand as it enables dynamic addition or removal of links as needed, without disrupting the existing WAN infrastructure. MLPPP is a standard protocol (IETF RFC 1990).

The simultaneous splitting of high-speed traffic over several E1 lines using MLPPP is also termed inverse multiplexing.
